What the Hell is this Thing??

You first noticed it right after you bought the car. You were cleaning out the back seat when you came across this triangular wedge thing on the rear "parcel shelf". You tried to figure out it's purpose but to no avail. Some have said that it is a rear camera mount, others that it was part of a Factory 360° Radar system. So what exactly is it, and for Gods sake, what does it do? The answer is so simple, you should probably kick your self!

Feel silly for all the outrageous things you thought it was? Don't worry, so did I!

So now that you have solved the first "riddle of the BMW", you move on to the next. Just what on God's
green earth is this thing? You have puzzled over it for quite some time, you may have even taken the dash apart and realized there is nothing there behind it (While you were fixing your OBC backlight of course )

Speculations arose on the BEN over the last several years. Some have opoined that it was a place for the Hands Free Mic from the Factory Cell Phone System. Others had the paranoid delusion that it was a hidden microphone, put there by BMW A.G. to hear you curse out at your SI lights , OBC, Radio Code function, water leaks etc, at which point they would send out a 'kill signal' via sattelite to your vehicle. When your mechanic looked over the car, he would have to use the official cover story, that it was your ICV, or your TPS. Yeah, like those are real things! We know better!

The 'party line' on this one is that it was a spot for an in-cabin temp sensor, for cars (such as the E28 five series, which shared many parts with the E30s) with a full climate control system. The world may never know......
