I needed to
replace the worn drivers side bolster in the 1986 325es, and since I already
had
a spare seat,
I figured I would dismantle it, clean it, and replace that part on the
seat I have.
Gives me time
to learn the parts of the seat as well as figure out how to clean it.
The tools needed
for the actual cleaning were; A hard bristle brush, Castrol Super Clean™
and Beer. The
beer makes any unpleasant task more tolerable :)
I had played
with the Super Clean™ the day before and it cleaned the pass. side seat
I had
installed in
the car quite nicely.
Almost too nice,
it made the drivers side look filthy. I used it undiluted to clean the
seat and
I think it
removed more of the top layer of dye than it actually cleaned. So for this
task I diluted
it with ½
water and scrubbed less as I wanted to clean, not erase.
Afterwards
I rinsed with water and cleaned some more with Lexol™ Leather Cleaner.
The seats
felt 'sticky'
after the initial cleaning, but once I polished (?) with the Lexol™ it
felt smooth again.
My thoughts
are that the oils were leached out by the Super Clean™ and that the Lexol™
re-
plenished them.
Let's hope I am right.
Look at the
pics below to see the difference. They are decent, but don't really show
the
incredible
change that all that warm water and Super Clean™ made. I would caution
anyone
not to do what
I have done as I am an idiot with internet access, but it works for me
:)

The essentials for the Task! |
Sea Foam Tub, and Spastic Jack Russell Terrier are optional. Beer is mandatory.
Next up is the
install and since I am in there, I am gonna go out on a limb and install
the seat
shocks as well.
Expect more beer and the occasional bleeding artery.
Cheers,
